Quartz, is the second most abundant mineral found in the Earth's crust, after feldspar. Quartz comprises of a lattice of silica tetrahedra and has a hardness of 7 according to the Mohs scale. Its density is 2.65 g/cm³. Quartz belongs to the rhombohedral crystal system. Its ideal crystal shape is a six-sided prism that ends in a six-sided pyramid at each end. Quartz crystal appears massive and lacks the obvious crystal faces altogether, because of its nature of being twinned, distorted, or so inter-grown with adjacent crystals of quartz or other minerals.
